Lake Circuit.

I have just done the lake run in 13:20.  Still improving!  Below you will see a small Nike Plus profile which shows a brief summary of my workouts.  Pretty cool!  Nike Plus is a great motivational tool!

Nike Plus

I have just bought a new ipod touch and a sensor for my shoe.  This is a joint venture between Nike and Apple.  It looks like it is going to be a great bit of kit as my runs will be timed and measured.  I really liked the verbal feedback that could tell me how far I had run and what speed and time I was doing etc.  Unfortunately I turned it off during the run so my run was split into two.  This was more experience than any problem with the kit and I am looking forward to using it again especially after I have callibrated the sensor.  My circuit of the lake took around 14 mins today and the distance is about 1.22 miles.  I will give an accurate distance and time when I have calibrated.

Fitness and weight.

Although I am undoubtedly fitter than most of my peers I am carrying around some excess weight and due to a knee injury I have not done much CV work recently.  That coupled with the fact I am mainly working at a desk has contributed to a pretty fast weight gain.  I now weight 19st4lbs (270 lbs).  I would like to get back to the weight I was when I served in the Army: 15st (210).  I have started running around a local lake (Arrow Valley Lake).  The circuit is approx 1.2 miles.  I have ran round four times in the last 10 days.  My first circuit took 15:31.  My most recent one took 14:42 so there has been a definite improvement.  I am going to try and cut down on the time and eventually build up to multiple circuits.  I will keep you posted on how I do.

So what's this blog all about then?

Last year I began turning my love for the currently obscure martial art/self defence system, Krav Maga into a business.  This blog is a way of marking my progress and recording my ramblings about Krav Maga and Martial Arts, as well as a training blog regarding getting myself fit again.  I will be writing about physical fitness, weight loss ,diets, equipment and training methods as I get myself back into shape after a knee injury and a really bag chest infection which prevented me training for nearly six months and caused a considerable weight gain.  Previous to this  I qualified as a Krav Maga instructor in late 2005 and ran a small but friendly club in the West Midlands (UK) from then until last year when I decided that I wanted to make this my living.  In July 2006 I went into partnership with my most senior student John Browning (Who is now a fully qualified instructor too). I called the business "Krav Systems" and if you translate Krav from Hebrew into English it means "Battle Systems". That's our logo there.   We have gone from 10 students then to 50 regular students now.  I think the target will be something like 400 before I am happy!  Follow this blog and see how I do.
